The Illinois College football team has earned the school's first-ever bid to the Division III football playoffs. The Blueboys will travel to Wabash College for a game on Saturday, November 19. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CST.
Illinois College earned one of six at-large bids to gain entry to the field of 32 in the Division III playoffs. The Midwest Conference had never produced an at-large qualiier in league history.
"We're excited," said Head Coach
Garrett Campbell. "It's fun to be a part of something like this."
The Blueboys held a team meeting shortly after the brackets were revealed Sunday night. The team will practice Monday through Thursday this week.
"I am so delighted for the members of the team that they've been able to reach a goal they've been working towards for many years," Illinois College Athletic Director Gale Vaughn said. "As a former Illinois College football player, I couldn't be prouder."
The playoff bid comes after a record-setting season for the Blueboys. The 2011 team posted a record of 9-1, setting the school record for wins in a season. The team won its final six games of the season, matching the team's longest winning streak in three decades.
Wabash College, located in Crawfordsville, Indiana, won the North Coast Athletic Conference with perfect 10-0 overall and 6-0 conference records.
