The Illinois College volleyball team came up just short in a bid for its first win of the season Thursday night at Greenville College. The Lady Blues lost in five games, 24-26, 23-25, 27-25, 26-24, 16-14, as each game was decided by two points and all but one required extra points.
The Lady Blues got strong performances from Brittney Burgess and Alese Speckhart, who tallied 13 kills and three aces each. Kayla Birdsell continued her streak of leading the team in digs in every match this season, recording 44 against Greenville. Allye Wuest and Maurissa Moulton had 14 and 17 assists, respectively, and Megan Moore had a team-high six blocks.
IC fell to 0-7. The Lady Blues return to action on Sept. 20 at Knox College.
